It appears I need to add the tag !important to the css lines to override css that exists elsewhere.

Be sure and add !important to anything you are overriding.

Jack - you did tell me that, but I was so focused on the css file itself I failed to pay close attention. It would have saved 30 minutes if I had. A lesson of a different type learned.
