Error 208

Postby Ted Giles » 20 October 2024, 14:57

I am using an old "perpetual" version of InDe.
After a while away from it, I have been asked to develop an app.

No matter what I do, I cannot add data to a MSSQL2012 database, and get the Error 208 Invalid Name [Activity] Cannot search for Data.
This is to be the first record in the table.
I have tried with and without a PK, and various options for the initial display.
Any ideas?

Could be lots of things. What Does the debugger say when it tries to first open the connection to the database?

Hi Jack.
I am trying it with MYSQL on Smarter right now.
Sorry, how do I get at the debugger? No connection errors that I can see, Jack
I just created the Db on Smarter and testing on my PC. Not published.

The debugger should be enabled when compiling locally by default. Then click on the debug icon in the upper right, and you should see a STOP error. Expand it to get more information.
Could be a local driver issue. Make sure you have the mssql drivers or mysql drivers installed. I would stick with mssql first, since for mysql you need to make sure you have the right combination of drivers and server version. I have a lot of posts on this in both the English forum and Italian one.

And make sure you have checked mysql/myssql in the db properties in inde, and are using the right one. Does the connection button in db properties return success?

Yep, I can connect successfully to both MySQL and MSSQL12

The application launches but the data is the problem it seems.

Edit. I will look at the versions of SQL I am using. Some modern ones aren't compatible with V13.5.

Another Edit. It may be the way that Smarter have configured their new platform, as I cannot alter the Db using Toad.

Well Toad isn't playing too well. I sent details of an error message, as requested to InDe, but there is a long wait for a response, so I persisted and found a way around the problem using a 3rd party SQL management tool.
I am now able to take ownership and alter the database from within InDe, so sorry to have wasted your time Jack
