Questions and answers on how to best use Instant Developer

Posting Values

Postby john w » 12 November 2012, 16:33

A general coding question. My application will need to post or set values between tables. The simple way to think of this is to post an invoice detail record to an invoice header record. Do I do need to manage that in VCE by writing code or are there tools in In.de that simplify the process?

If Ineed to write code I will assume I can add a button and then use an onClick/onPush type event or perhaps I can set a trigger to fire.

In this case you need to write a simple visual code procedure. You can add a command button in a panel and then attach a procedure to it. The code depends on what you need. For example, if you want to set the value in memory, you can modify the value of the relevant panel field. If you prefer to modify direcly the database, you can write an update query in visual code. If you post more detail or a screenshot of the form, I'll give you a more precise advise.

I will do that later today, but in fairness perhaps I should have approached the question differently. Does In.de have any built- in (that is pre-built) data handling functions?

Always the assistance is appreciated

This question is quite general, so I cannot answer in a specific way.
Instant Developer is dedicated to database-oriented business applications so it is full of data handling functions. Quering the database, modifying data is easy and immediate. But there is also a built-in enterprise framework to create even SOA applications.
If you ask me something more specific I will create an example project for you.

I am in the process of moving an existing desktop application to the In.de platform. I will try to create a sample and post it however, I do have the sample from my desktop application if that would be acceptable.

In the end I just trying to layout my project plan, planning for where I need to write code.

I do like the In.de platform thus far. I am just new and need to learn. I will say I am picking it up more quickly than some others platofrms I have used. Very Nice!

We are used to speed up the development of the first project by using a remote assistance system. Perhaps we can use some time to see how to do the same things in this new enviroment. In any case I can help by posting examples of the features you need.

I will take advantage of the support hours in the next couple weeks. To get the most from that time I wanted to learned more about the platform and where I had questions about it.

I have started moving my app to In.de. I have been working on the layout of the main application form/panel. I am trying to get up to speed on layout, visual styles, and things like that. The desktop app has some 25 forms, to convert, so I need to sort through each them along with their coding logic. I will get the receipting - statement part of the application/process started so I can post a sample.

So I assumed it was okay to some basic questions here. I thought perhaps some of the other developers may speak English and respond. Sometime I may trying make a post and then translating it to Italian and post in on the other side.

John, you are right. I think that it is ok to post here in english and we are here to help you. Italian developers know english but are a bit lazy about using it :). After a while they will probably start replying to your posts.
