Export to Excel not launching

Postby Ted Giles » 26 June 2021, 8:24

In the application build on the dev machine, Export to Excel works fine.
On the Server, it doesn't.

The application has a login on the server. Other apps without a login will launch the Excel download.

Do I have to do anything differently to get Excel to launch?

All my apps have logins and I haven't had to do anything different for the Export to Excel button to work.

Maybe the browser isn't allowing the pop-up for some reason? I'd try a different browser and check your pop-up settings.

Thats a good thought, Jack.
I have Edge, Chrome and Firefox.
Will try them all when I get back on the desk.

Nope still not working.
It does work when I run the app on my local machine.
Running the app from the server and the Export to Excel isn't working.
Tried it with 2 different Browsers.

Also tried it in HTTPS mode. Still not working.

Could it be anything to do with the size of the data set?

InDe writes the export file to your app's temp folder. I wonder if it could be a permission issue on the server's temp folder such that it doesn't create the file?

I cannot find a temp folder anywhere in the build, Jack.
Not on the server build anyway.
The working apps have a temp folder, but not the two I am investigating.

How do I get a temp folder into the build?

Well. Tried just adding on the server and giving R/W permission. Nope
Rebuilt the DLL and reloaded the data of a test site with the same problem. That fixed it. Oh no it didn't!! Still working locally but not on the server

Now the next issue is recreating shed loads of data if I don't need to. Separate Question being raised.

Maybe compare the permissions with the temp folder (should be at same level as your bin folder in the deployed app) in the working apps to see if there are any differences.

I don't think so.
When I build the application using the latest ID Manager, I don't get a Temp folder created in the files on the server.

Earlier apps have the Temp folder.

Fist image is an older app - has a Temp folder
Second image is a new build - no Temp folder

Resolved this issue I believe.
The hosting company changed the rules on Application Pools.
I can select from ASP.NET Classic OR 4 OR 2/3.5 sp2.

What confused me was that earlier apps and sites all ran in a mixture of 4 and 3.5 with no trouble.
Not so any more.
Fortunately the other sites - previously set up under 4 will run under 3.5 so I will be changing the App Pool to ASP.NET 3.5.

The early apps - 3 years old or more still run with the Excel download feature working.
New ones don't until the App Pool has been configured to the basic 3.5 version

Interesting.

InDe versions before 15.0 compiled for .Net 2.0 only.

Starting with InDe 15.0 you have the option of selecting either .Net 2.0 or .Net 4.0.
