Questions and answers on how to best use Instant Developer

MySQL -

Postby john w » 15 March 2024, 20:30

I am migrating my InDe apps to a new server. It also means a newer version of MySQL. It also has a connection to SQLServer. I was able to set the SQL Server connection without issue.

However the MySQL connection is a problem. I get an error message saying it cannot find a suitable connection.

I have tried all Jack's suggestions from this and the Italian forum to get the .dll files into the app etc without success.

I have to admit this whole MySQL connection problem has been going on quite a while without a decent solution from Programma...

Any suggestions?

What version do you have? My work was mainly to get InDe to work with various versions of MariaDB.

Is the server MySQL or MariaDB, and which version?

From the InDe IDE, which is 32-bit, you will need a 32-version of the MySQL ODBC driver. InDe supports MySQL server quite well--it is the MariaDB which requires a little tweaking.

This screenshot shows InDe 23.0 connecting to MariaDB 10.11.6:

Let me start by saying your v23 connection window has more options then mine does. I do not have a MySQL 5 choice. I have a MySQL choice.

It appears I only have a 64bit driver. That is what the new versions seem to be. At least the one I have. v8xx

Do I need to roll back to the version 5?

Next is I am connecting to a remote MySQL database which is v8.xxx on a new managed server. It is connecting to a Joomla MySQL database and the new version of Joomla requires it.

As you know this is not my first struggle with MySQL connections. It appears others have experienced issues as well . It seems given the sizeable number of MySQL databases in use across the globe InDe would make this a seamless process. Sorry its the frustration coming out.

Anyway thanks for any help

After working to troubleshoot this issue I think I have it resolved. I will be deploying the app next.

I needed to have the 32bit v5.xx MySql Odbc Connector installed. That raised an error of an unsigned .dll file. I then found I needed to install the .net MySQL connector. At that point it compiled and worked. No idea why that was the case.

Next step is to do a test deployment.

I still need to do more testing, but the deployed app seems to be working.

Great!

My screenshot looks different because I have checked the "Show database versions" in my project properties:
