IMDB document class (DO)

Postby john w » 17 April 2025, 21:31

My application use IMDB datatables almost exclusively. I need to create a DO for several of them, to use in building a web service. Is there a way to do this?

Hi John,
you can create a DO Class from an IMDB via drag&drop. It works for the most part but it is not officially supported.
On a class created this way, you could use events to intercept loading and storing, shut down the framework and develop the procedures yourself.

It is my opinion that to do a clean job, IMDBs should be replaced by classes and collections.

I hope it is useful, keep us updated.

r.bianco:

Thanks for the suggestions. I have only worked with the Table Orientation in InDe. Perhaps this is the time to move towards DO, and use classes, objects and collections. The IMDB has worked well, but maybe the application has outgrown it.

If I start making this change I will have a lot of questions. I need to look again at the DO documentation, to see if I can scheme up the best way to move this forward.

I would like this to happen given I need to be able to move data between other applications in a more elegant fashion than upload and download.

It will be all new ground, I confess I am a bit nervous...<smile>

You are right.
DO logics are different from DB logics, even Form Panels work differently. I think there will be a lot of code to rewrite.
But I am convinced that InDe gives its best through DO.
