Using a Role to allow/disallow editing

Postby asawyer13 » 1 August 2013, 11:11

When using a Role, how can I allow or disallow a user to add, update or delete a record?

You can drag&drop a panel onto a role, that operation creates a new roleItem. By right clicking on the role Item you can specify if that role can insert/delete/update/search the panel's data.

Is it that the answer you were looking for?

You can find more informations about the roles in the chapter 3.8 of the Instant Developer Users guide http://doc.instantdeveloper.com/eng/inde-users-guide.pdf .

I can see the roles for editing, insert and delete. They are marked with an x. The right click menu does not allow me to change them. It only allows me to change enabled and visible.

Where do I get the panel to drag and drop onto the role? I don't want to limit updates for a specific field, like the demo example, but want to allow or disable edits to the entire form.

I have a screen image but cannot figure out what kind of attachment is allowed - docx, doc and pdf are not allowed.

I just used my sample app and tried it. I dragged and dropped the form panel onto the user. In my case I used the default Normal User. That created a Role Item having the same name as my form/panel. When I right clicked on it I can set
Can Select
Can Delete
Can Update
Can Insert

I can select one or all of those choice or add a different task. That gets you to the panel level. If you need to take it down to a particular set of fields you may need to add those fields to a separate panel on the form.

Unless I am missing something my quick and dirty look makes it seem pretty simple.

John W

I think that is what I just did. I can see the roles with X's under the role. when I right click all I get is the option for visible and another for enabled. Do you see those also in your list?

I must be doing something a bit wrong.

Make sure you are dragging and dropping the panel onto the user. If Successful You should in the Roles/Users tree a new Role Item created having the name of your panel/form. Right click on that new Role Item. You will see the choices I listed above.

OK. I was dragging from the menu instead of the object immediately below the form name. I think I got it,

Thanks for the help.
